The Pentair Challenger is a workhorse high-head pump, common on in-ground pools and water features. It has two quirks worth knowing before you order parts.

Quirk one: the housing seal is square, not round
The front housing takes 355329, a square-section gasket rather than a conventional round o-ring. People replace it with a round ring of similar diameter and it weeps immediately. The square profile is doing real work — it seats flat against a wide face.
Quirk two: the 5 HP model is different
The standard rebuild kit does not fit the 5 HP Challenger. If you have the 5 HP, contact us with your model number before ordering anything.
What's in a Challenger rebuild
Pentair & Sta-Rite Challenger Rebuild Kit (all models except 5 HP)
Contents: lid o-ring (old style and current), front housing square gasket 355329, drain plug o-rings (2) 192115, diffuser o-ring 355331, diffuser quad-ring 355030, strainer pot flange 355330, shaft seal 354545 (also 354545S, 17304-0100), lubricant, instructions.
About that quad-ring
355030 is a quad-ring, not an o-ring — four lobes in cross-section instead of a circle. It resists rolling in its groove during assembly and gives two sealing contact points rather than one. Substituting a standard o-ring here works until the first pressure cycle.
Shared parts across the Pentair range
Shaft seal 354545 also fits the SuperFlo, SuperMax, VS, Pinnacle, Dynamite, Dynamo, Dynatron and Triton. Drain plug o-ring 192115 is used across most of the Pentair and Sta-Rite line. If you service several Pentair pumps, those two are worth keeping on the shelf.
Before you reassemble

Every o-ring in these kits seats better and lasts longer with a food-grade silicone lubricant. Dry o-rings pinch, twist and take a set, which is how a brand-new seal starts weeping within a season.
Aqua Flex Food Grade Silicone Lubricant is what ships in our kits. Apply it to o-rings only — never to the polished faces of a mechanical shaft seal. Lubricant on the carbon or ceramic makes the seal slip, overheat and leak.
