Sta-Rite Dura-Glas and Max-E-Glas: Shaft Seals and Series Differences

Sta-Rite Dura-Glas and Max-E-Glas: Shaft Seals and Series Differences

Sta-Rite's Dura-Glas, Max-E-Glas and Maxi-Glas families are closely related, share a shaft seal, and differ in ways that only show up when you have the pump apart.

The shared seal

These pumps use the seal listed as U9-358, which also appears as U109-358SS, U109-372SS, 37407-0009, 37400-0027S and 17351-0101S. Six numbers, one seal.

The pre-1998 detail

Dura-Glas II and Maxi-Glas II in the P4E and P4EA series take an insert o-ring, U9-376, on pumps built before 1998. Later pumps do not use it.

Our rebuild kit for this family includes it, which means it is either exactly what you need or one spare part. That is the right way round — discovering mid-repair that you are missing a seal is the expensive outcome.

Other seals in the family

  • Lid o-ring U9-375 (also 35505-1440)
  • Seal plate o-ring U9-228A
  • Diffuser o-ring U9-374
  • Impeller o-ring 35505-1426
  • Union o-rings U9-362

The U9- prefix runs consistently through this range, which makes it one of the easier Sta-Rite families to order for — once you know your series and, for the P4E, your build year.

Before you reassemble

Aqua Flex food grade silicone lubricant

Seat every o-ring with a thin film of food-grade silicone. Dry rings pinch and take a set. Aqua Flex Food Grade Silicone Lubricant is what ships in our kits.

O-rings only. Never lubricate the polished faces of a mechanical shaft seal.
