Hayward Power-Flo LX Parts Guide: SP1580, SP1580X15 and W3 Models

The Hayward Power-Flo LX and the PowerFlo Matrix are frequently confused, and ordering the wrong kit is the single most common mistake we see on these pumps. The names are similar. The parts are not.

Confirm your model first

The Power-Flo LX carries a model number in the SP1580 family:

  • SP1580 — base model
  • SP1580H — high head variant
  • SP1580TL — twist-lock cord
  • SP1580X15 / SP1580X15TL — 1.5 HP versions
  • W3SP1580 / W3SP1580X15 — later production, same wet end

If your plate reads SP1592 or SP1593, you have a Matrix — see our PowerFlo Matrix parts guide instead.

The seals in an SP1580

Housing o-ring — SPX1580Z1

Seals the volute to the seal plate. This is the part number that most clearly distinguishes the LX from the Matrix.

Replacement for Hayward SPX1580Z1 Housing O-Ring

Strainer cover o-ring — SPX1500P

Under the clear lid. Loss of prime and air in the basket point here first.

Strainer connector o-ring — SPX1500W

Also used on Perflex 1990 filters, which is why you will sometimes see this number in filter documentation.

Union o-rings — SPX1495Z1 (two required)

The pump takes two. Replace both or neither — a new one beside an old one just moves the leak.

Shaft seal — SPX1500KA

Shared with the Matrix. Water appearing between the motor and the wet end is this part, and delay costs you the motor. Treat it as the priority job.

Before you reassemble

Every o-ring in these kits seats better and lasts longer with a food-grade silicone lubricant. Dry o-rings pinch, twist and take a set, which is how a brand-new seal starts weeping within a season. A thin film is all you need.

Aqua Flex Food Grade Silicone Lubricant is what we use and what ships in our kits. Apply it to o-rings only — never to the polished faces of a mechanical shaft seal. Those faces need to run dry and clean against each other, and lubricant on the carbon or ceramic will cause the seal to slip, overheat and leak.
